My Racing Days

I raced a Mini at Kimbolton Raceway a short circuit oval 1978-79.  Two first and two seconds. Here's me lapping a back marker. I'm the blue car. This car was powered by a A series 998cc revving to 8,500R.P.M with a Weber 40 DCOE twin barrel, with many other modification.

This car was driven by Pete Scott of Bedford at Northampton Stadium.   I built the engine based on a 1275 A series.  The capacity was 1460cc using Ford Fiesta piston and some clever machining on the bores and crankshaft.

Unfortunately the chassis always let us down.  The front tyres were ex-Formula One fronts and placed tremedous load on the ball joints, which failed.  The engine really pulled well.  As you can see there was no sponsorship on the car. In motor racing you need two things to win, talent and money.  This was about 1979 and I was soon to leave the racing seen as my future wife came on the scene.   Pete to this day stills dabbles in racing, mostly oval circuit and  also some Eurocars.
